Creative MomAmbassador Cohort

A community advisory circle of six to eight Washington, DC mothers representing diverse neighborhoods, generations, family structures, and lived experiences.

Serving as trusted community connectors, ambassadors will help ensure that Capital M reflects the breadth and complexity of motherhood across the District. They will contribute lived expertise, strengthen community outreach, and provide thoughtful feedback throughout the project's development.

Ambassadors will participate in up to three facilitated workshops between Summer 2026 and Spring 2027 and support community engagement efforts leading up to the Who Raised You? exhibition.

What ambassadors do.

Community Outreach

  • Nominate mothers whose stories should be included.
  • Share Capital M opportunities within their personal and professional networks.
  • Encourage participation in surveys, story collection, events, and oral histories.
  • Help reach communities that may be traditionally underrepresented.

Storytelling & Research

  • Identify themes, traditions, and questions emerging from community conversations.
  • Offer context that helps interpret trends and lived experiences.
  • Recommend organizations, neighborhood leaders, artists, and historians who should be engaged.

Co-Design & Feedback

  • Participate in facilitated workshops to review project progress.
  • Provide feedback on exhibit concepts, storytelling approaches, and community engagement activities.
  • Advise on accessibility, inclusivity, cultural relevance, and visitor experience.

Community Representation

  • Attend select Capital M events when available.
  • Welcome participants and help foster meaningful dialogue.
  • Serve as informal ambassadors for the project within their communities.

The commitment.

Creative Mom Ambassadors are asked to:

  • Participate in up to three workshops, tentatively in person, approximately 2 hours each.
  • Support outreach through their own networks when possible.
  • Complete occasional feedback surveys or virtual check-ins.
  • Attend at least one Capital M community event if schedules allow.
  • Bring their lived experience, curiosity, and perspective to the advisory process.

Anticipated commitment: approximately 10–15 hours over the course of the project.

We're seeking mothers who…

  • Live or have meaningful ties to Washington, DC.
  • Represent a variety of wards, generations, cultures, and parenting experiences.
  • Enjoy connecting people and building community.
  • Value storytelling, listening, and collaboration.
  • Are excited to help preserve and celebrate the stories of DC mothers.

Ambassadors will receive

  • A modest stipend or honorarium (subject to project funding).
  • Recognition in Capital M project materials and exhibition acknowledgments.
  • Early access to project updates and exhibition previews.
  • Opportunities to build relationships with fellow mothers, artists, and community leaders.
